Harriet Reynolds

Harriet E Reynolds left this world on June 17, 2023 leaving behind many family and friends who

will dearly miss her. She was born August 22, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois to parents Harold

Joseph Murphy and Nina (Getz) Murphy. She excelled in her years at Glenbard West High

School in Glen Ellen, Illinois which were filled with musical and home economics activities and

awards; both talents which she continued to excel in throughout her life. Harriet obtained her

Bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and she further completed a

Master’s degree at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. She spent many years as an

educator in Home Economics In Geneseo and Springfield, Illinois. She met and married William

(Bill) E Reynolds, on June 12, 1973 and they remained married for 42 years until his death.

Harriet and Bill relocated to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas after retirement and led active lives

boating, golfing, and doing volunteer activities through their church. Harriet’s skills have greatly

enhanced the community through her volunteer activities in sewing/quilting groups, and her

participation in the Hot Springs Flute Ensemble which provided joy at events throughout the

community for many years. She made many friends through Mah Jong, traveling groups,

volunteer activities, and socializing with neighbors. She was known as a person who would

tenaciously take on new activities and not be satisfied until she had done them to the best of her

ability. Her family remembers the joy she had in all aspects of fishing, never asking for help,

and like all other things in her life, relying on her enthusiasm and persistence to achieve her

goals.

Harriet’s most memorable attributes were her kindness and soft-spoken disposition that drew all

that met her to recognize the truly remarkable person she was. Despite her extensive skills and

accomplishments, which were the envy of others, she was always humble. She didn’t look for

accolades or praise, she just wanted to be the best person she could be.

Harriet was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind a large loving family who will

miss the joy she brought to this world. This includes brother David Murphy of Laporte,

Minnesota; stepson William Terry (Diana) Reynolds of Kirksville, Missouri; stepdaughter

Deborah Ann (Tom) Iverson of Cuba, Missouri; four grandchildren: Doug Reynolds (Cherise),

Tracy (Ken) Reynolds, Amy (Chris) Johnson, and Andrea Morinoue (Scott); 12 great-

grandchildren: Sara, Kaitlyn, Jude, Justina, Jared, Chanelle, Dinah, Mika, Mae, Jack, Lucy, and Nora

and nephew John.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Jun 27 at Christ of the Hills Methodist

Church.
