Arthur Volkema was born in Denver, CO on August 7, 1930, and died at the age of 91 on August 4, 2022. He was the son of Henry and Gretta Volkema and brother of Jane and Frederick. He married Martha Mae Newman at Whiteman AFB chapel on January 26, 1957. He is survived by his wife Marty and daughter June Marie Brandes (Jim), his grandson Nicholas Arthur Brandes, his sister Jane VanZytveltd (Jack), 4 nephews and 2 nieces and his sister-in-law AnnaBelle.
Art attended college in Grand Rapids, Michigan until he joined the Air Force in 1951 where he went to Language School until he was accepted into flight training in 1954. He served in Korea, Vietnam and throughout his Air Force career he was stationed in Texas, Missouri, Kansas, Louisiana, Newfoundland, and the Panama Canal. Art retired as a Major in 1971. After his retirement from the Air Force, they moved to Colorado but after brief stay there moved to Missouri for 16 years to work for Defense Mapping and then transferred to San Antonio to finish out the last 4 years before he retired.
Art and Marty moved to Hot Spring Village, Arkansas for their retirement in 1992. Art was a member of the Presbyterian Kirk of the Pines for 30 years. And was installed as an Elder on December 16, 2001. Art enjoyed playing golf and singing.
A memorial service will be held at Presbyterian Kirk of the Pines on August 27, 2022, at 10am.
