Charles Dennis Derryberry

August 24, 1940 — January 22, 2024

Charles Dennis Derryberry

Charles Derryberry departed for Heaven on 1-22-2024. He was born in North Little Rock on 8-24-1940 to L.E. and LaVetra Derryberry.

He graduated from NLR High School and AR State Teachers College (now UCA) where he was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity.

He began a long and successful career in the Property and Casualty Insurance industry with Light Adjustment Company, followed by AIG, Home Insurance and ultimately as Vice President of Republic Insurance. He retired in 2003 and returned to Arkansas with his wife Valerie in Hot Springs Village.

Charley was an avid golfer and played as often as possible. In his spare time, he worked at Magellan Golf Course for several years so that, when he wasn't playing golf he could exchange tall tales with other golfers. He especially loved to play golf with his grandsons.

He also gave back to his community. He served on the HSV Townhouse Association including two years as President, Village Employee Benefits Fund board, was a member of Kiwanis and served on the Safety Team at Balboa Baptist Church, where he was a member since 2004.

He and Valerie enjoyed many trips throughout the US plus 63 foreign countries. As proud as he was of his accomplishments, he was most proud of his family.

Charley is survived by his wife Valerie, three daughters, Monica Broadway (John), Pennye Bray (Scott), DeDe Gillespie (Jay) and stepson, Scott Kimball (Bree). He absolutely adored his grandchildren-Trey Shaw (Amanda), Simon Alderman (Cindy), Chas Bray (Lorie), Morganne Gillespie (Jake), Cole Gillespie (Kari), Liam, Quentin, Everett, Elijah, and Ezra Kimball, plus very special cousin Bob Derryberry (Sandra).

Funeral services will be at Balboa Baptist Church on Saturday, January 27th with visitation at 10:00 am with memorial service at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers please, make a contribution to AR Baptist Children's Home or the charity of your choice.
