Darl E. Monk passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 4th at the age of 67.
Darl was born in Mt. Ayr, Iowa on April 29, 1956. He graduated from Grinnell High School in Iowa where he was a pitcher on the baseball team and was in show choir.
Before college he joined the Air Force where he worked as a ground radio communications repairman at Whiteman Air Force base in Missouri.
Following graduation from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids with a degree in computer science, he was hired by Emerson - Fisher Controls in Marshalltown, Iowa, where he met and married Carol Carson Benson in 1983.
After working there for several years, they moved to St. Louis and Darl worked for the Don H. Munger Company as a process control instrumentation engineer where he stayed until retirement.
In his younger years Darl was an avid softball pitcher and played in several leagues. He was known by his teammates as a great long ball hitter. He had a passion for photography and the Kansas City Chiefs. He and Carol had season tickets for many years and never missed a game either in person or on TV. Darl and Carol had a wonderful forty years together. They retired to Hot Springs Village Arkansas in 2018.
Darl was preceded in death by his parent, Darrel and Verla Monk, sister Ginger Millemon, brothers-in-law Kevin Reilly and Joe Marks and sister-in-law Tina Carson.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol, daughter Corey (Kevin) Bivins, son Patrick (Samantha) Benson and six grandchildren - Jesse, Jacob, Kai, Kara, Brandon and Cameron, and sisters Diane Reilly, Roni Marks and Amy (Keith) Hensley.
Darl loved giving back to his church where he was known as a quiet, gentle person willing to pitch in wherever needed - be it the shuttle driver or working on the sound board. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
