Elsie Leonard, 100, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away February 12, 2021. She was born November 19, 1920, in Manhattan, NY to Friedrich Steinke and Matilda (Brunk) Steinke. Elsie was of the Christian faith. She was a strong-willed and independent woman who enjoyed a long, fulfilling nursing career. Elsie loved to drink coffee (cream only, no sugar) and enjoyed bowling and playing card games.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 71 years, Carl Leonard, Sr.; daughter, Charlotte Drews; granddaughter Connie Rollins and her sisters and brothers, Olga Mortensen, Emma Freeman, Helen Forgette, Adolph Steinke and Frederick Steinke. Survivors include sons, Carl Leonard, Jr. (Joan) of Logansport, Louisiana, Chris Leonard (Deborah) of Friendswood, Texas; daughters, Barbara Theiss (Conrad) of Panama City, Florida; Margaret Eubanks (James) of Camden, Arkansas; grandchildren, John Kelley (Bernie), Chesley Andrews (Michelle), Julie Dixon (Danny), Missy Parks (Kurt), Joseph Eubanks, Allison Wade, Peyton Leonard, Hayden Leonard; thirteen great-grandchildren; fifteen great-great-grandchildren.
Elsie will be laid to rest with her husband Carl in a private ceremony at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock. A formal memorial service for family and friends will be planned for a future date.
Elsie was an avid supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Instead of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to St. Jude’s in her name. Arrangments entrusted with CedarVale Funeral Home of Hot Springs Village.
