Evelyn Leona Smock

Evelyn Leona Smock, 98, formerly of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2020, in Little Rock to be reunited with her husband and many other loved ones in heaven for eternity.
Evelyn was born in Angola, Indiana, on October 1, 1921, and moved to Chicago where she graduated from high school and beauty school. She met the love of her life, Joseph M. Smock, at the Christian Church in Chicago where they were married on June 23, 1940. They raised two daughters in Griffith, Indiana, and also served as foster parents for 25 years, providing a loving home for 13 teenage girls during that period. Joe and Evelyn were life-time members of the Griffith First Christian Church. She volunteered as Bible School Secretary for many years and was an active member of the King’s Daughters, providing and serving dinners for family funerals and wedding receptions. They were members of the Order of Eastern Star, where they served as Worthy Matron and Patron. Always interested in travel, first as a family and later as a couple, they eventually visited all 50 states.
After Joe’s retirement in 1976, they moved to Hot Springs Village and took up square dancing, golf, and lawn bowling, which they both enjoyed every week for over 30 years making many good friends along the way. They faithfully attended the Village Church of Christ and also enjoyed the Friday night get-togethers at the Village Christian Church. They were happily married for nearly 76 years when Joe passed away in 2016.
Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Beverly (Ed) Lukacs of Little Rock and Marlene (Fred) Darin of Charlotte, Michigan; five grandchildren--Joe (Tammy) Lukacs, Janet (Jeff) Sawyer, David, Karl and Keith (Arelys) Darin; four great-grandchildren—Sarah (Todd) Dunn, Michael and Hannah Lukacs, Matthew Sawyer and a fifth due in December.
Evelyn loved being with her family and especially enjoyed all their get togethers for family celebrations. She will be dearly missed for her fun spirit, family stories and her happy smile. Her life was truly lived by her favorite scripture: “Love One Another” John 13:34-35.
