Howard Charles Olson

Howard Charles Olson, 84, of Hot Springs Village passed away December 20, 2022 from complications of dementia. His wife, Carla of 42 years, was by his side.

Born to the late Ole and Dorothy Olson in Elgin, Illinois, Howard was preceded in death by his brother, Kenny and sister, Karen.

Howard enlisted in the Navy after graduating high school. He was in the naval band, played organ for their Sunday services, and was a radio-man on board a LSD ship for two years.

After the Navy, Howard began a long, distinguished career as a printer and as the owner of Madison Forms Corporation. His business served both the state of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin in Madison for all their printed needs. Howard was named 1993 Citizen of the Year in McFarland, Wisconsin for his involvement with Junior Achievement projects, the School Work Program and supporting an apprenticeship program at Madison Forms Corporation.

Howard has lived in the Village for 17 wonderful years. He was a member of Village Woodworkers and loved making projects for his church, family and friends. Golf and cribbage were his games of choice- and many great laughs were had across the table and on the green.

Music was dear to Howard his entire life. Howard was a member of the Hot Springs Concert Band, The Big Band, and the Sax Quartet- “he loved making music with his friends.”

The Mt Carmel Community staff and Gentiva Hospice Care Team worked together to make Howard’s transition one of peace and comfort. Upon hearing of Uncle Howard’s death, his 5 year old great-granddaughter, Sawyer, told her mom: “He is going to have a glorious Christmas because he will be with Jesus!”

Howard was a dedicated and loving husband and father. He will be missed most by his wife, Carla; daughters Dianne and Suzanne; grandchildren Rachel, Ian, Nick and Emma; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Lynn; numerous nieces and nephews; many friends, and his church family at Community of Joy Church in Hot Springs Village.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Community of Joy Lutheran Church at 10am Saturday, January 21, 2022. A light lunch will follow.

Memorials are welcomed and may be sent to the Community of Joy Church, the Hot Springs Concert Band, St. Jude, or the Mt Carmel Community at the Village.
