James B. Carpenter, 91, passed away on April 13, 2020 at Mt. Carmel in Hot Springs Village,
Arkansas. He was born on February 27,1929 in Mooresville, Indiana to Denzel and Cora Carpenter.
Jim was affectionately known by his nickname “Toad” to all his family and friends.
He graduated from Indiana University in 1955 with a degree in Medicine and was in Family Practice in
Lafayette, Indiana. Over his years in practice, he was most proud of having delivered over two
thousand babies. After 30 years he closed his practice and then served as the Medical Director of the
Indiana Veterans Home until he retired in 1993. He and his wife then moved to Hot Springs Village.
He was a member of Presbyterian Kirk in the Pines.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Ann Dry whom he married in 1952.
He is survived by their children, daughter Ann (Terry) Thrower of Oklahoma, son James D. Carpenter
(Shannon), and daughter Kari Florey both of Hot Springs Village; among his siblings, he is survived
by his sister Marcia Carpenter of California; his three grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Cremation is entrusted to CedarVale Funeral Home in Hot Springs Village. A memorial service for
close friends and family will be held at a later date.
