James Adrian Bertrand

James Adrian Bertrand, born on December 17, 1937, in Kankakee, Illinois, departed this world on August 26, 2024, in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. James lived a life defined by unwavering dedication and an enduring commitment to his faith, family and career.

James graduated from the University of Redlands Whitehead School of Business in Southern California. He then went on to serve several years with the State of California as a Training Supervisor for the State Board of Equalization. In this role, he exemplified professionalism and integrity, imparting knowledge and experience to those around him, before retiring in September, 1996.  His colleagues and friends will remember him not just for his work ethic but also for his approachable demeanor and his willingness to help others.

James and his wife Claudia were married for forty years. Shortly after they retired, they joined Mobile Missionary Assistance Program  (MMAP).  They enjoyed several years traveling throughout the states, while serving the Lord and enjoyed the Christian fellowship they encountered.

James was a cherished father and is survived by his beloved daughters, Annette Avila of Colorado, and  Leana DeFurio (Brad) of Colorado. He is also survived by his four sons; Samuel Bertrand (Teri) of California, James Bertrand Jr. (Pam) of Florida, Anthony Bertrand (Patricia) of California, and Kevin Bertrand (Donna) of California. He nurtured a deep bond with each of his children, who draw upon countless memories of joy, laughter, and heartfelt conversations with their father.

He also leaves behind his brother Jerome Bertrand (Cathy) of Arkansas, John Bertrand Sr. (Barbara) of California, and Robert Bertrand of Illinois. Together, they shared a rich tapestry of brotherhood steeped in love, support, and shared experiences that defined their lives.

James is predeceased by both of his parents, Raymond A. and Alberta Rose (Hebert) and his brother, Raymond A. Bertrand Jr., whose memory remains an indelible part of the family’s history. The love they shared continues to resonate in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know them.

James also leaves behind twenty Grandchildren; Alexandra, Sarah, Andrew, Ashley, Taylor, Serena, Vanessa, Chloe, Ethan, Christina, Lisa, Marc, Lori, Laura, Kimberly, Michael, Brian, Emily, Megan and Zoey.

In addition,  he was blessed with nine Great Grandchildren: Lucy, Luke, Montgomery,  Sofia, Luca, Ella, Ashton, Mila and Livi, with Baby Reynaga on the way for a total of ten.

As we remember James Adrian Bertrand, let us celebrate a life well lived, one marked by discipline and devotion, characterized by kindness and laughter. His legacy lives on through his children and brothers, who carry forth his spirit and values into the world.
