James Franklin Russell Iii

James Franklin Russell III, age 86, of Hot Springs Village, AR passed away Monday, October 23rd, 2023. He

was born in Memphis, Tennessee on July 6, 1937, to James F “Frank” Russell Jr and Francis Lockman

Russell.

Jim began working as a soda jerk at the Ellis Bagwell Drug store in Memphis, TN but found his career in

working for General Motors. GM took Jim and his family all over the Midwest (mostly), creating lifelong

friendships across 7 states. In 1992, he got the opportunity to retire early and pursue one of his favorite

hobbies, stained glass, which then turned into another short career, with his wife June and their stainedglass store in Milford, OH. In 1997, Jim and June moved on to start their ‘real’ retirement in Hot Springs

Village, AR where they lived for 26 years and enjoyed life together. Jim loved to play golf, ride his

motorcycle, tinker with, and show off his vintage cars, reminisce about his time in the military, listen to

country music and take photographs for various organizations in The Village. He was a member of

Balboa Baptist Church and actively participated in the Pathfinder’s Sunday School Class.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, June, and his parents Frank and Francis Russell.

He is survived by his son James F Russell IV of Fort Lauderdale, FL, daughter Jennifer and Jim Joyce of

Hot Springs Village, AR and granddaughters, Taylor Burreson of New Haven, CT, Jacey Burreson of

Fayetteville, AR and his step-grandsons Ryan and Reed Joyce who live in Texas

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 25th, 2023. Visitation will be from 1pm-2pm

with a service immediately to follow at Balboa Baptist with Pastor Denny Wright officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park in Memphis, Tennessee on Friday, October 27th, 2023, at noon.
