Lee Henry Solomon

Lee Henry Solomon, long time Hot Springs Village Arkansas resident, died in Phoenix Arizona on Saturday, August 15 after suffering from a long illness.
Lee graduated from University of Michigan in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering and proudly served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army Reserve. He married Cherry, his high school sweetheart, and they began raising their growing family in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he worked for Exxon Petroleum Company. After 20 years working in the oil industry, he founded Solomon Associates Incorporated. Through the creation of Solomon’s Performance Excellence Process SAI became the leader in benchmarking studies for the refining and chemical industries.
Lee was better known throughout his life for his generous and giving spirit. In retirement he and Cherry supported many charities financially and with their time until Cherry’s death in 2013. He was an active member of Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church and served on the boards of many organizations in the Hot Springs area including: Mercy Hospital, the Boys and Girls Club, the Good Samaritan Society of Hot Springs Village, and the Arkansas Symphony. It was through a shared love of the Arkansas Symphony that Lee began a romance with Joy Wetherbee, and they married in 2016. His love for giving is one quality, of many, he passed on to his family and shared with his friends.
Lee was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Cherry, and siblings Wilbur, Robert, Bethel, and Ruth. He is survived by his brother John and his second wife Joy.
Lee was a loving father of Jeff (Suzy), Steve (Kay), Randy (Jenn), and Sandy; and proud grandfather of Kevin, Brian, Dominic, Matt, Noah, Emily, Jordan, Nathan, and Ben; and great-grandfather of Jameson. Lee is also survived by the Wetherbee clan: Jeff (Vicki), Dean (Shannon), and grandchildren Zach and Gloria.
A small family graveside service will be held in October. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Smile Train, one of Lee’s favorite charities.
