Lolita Anne Barber Grimes, 89, formerly of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Medical City Plano Hospital in Plano, TX. Her devoted family and firm belief in God supported her during her final days and ultimately gave her peace.
She was born December 15, 1933, in Jay, Florida to V.C. Barber and Jennie Daughtery Barber. From a young age, she attended the local Baptist church and was raised on God’s word. Lolita enjoyed involvement in the community and was an educator at heart. Lolita taught kindergarten at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, and she led a preschool class Sunday morning at First Baptist Church in Big Spring, TX. She always helped organize Vacation Bible School, was a member of the Lioness Club, active member of Daughters of World War I Veterans, assisted in local charities, and even enjoyed a ladies’ bridge club.
While living in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas Lolita was a member of Balboa Baptist Church and during her most recent time in Plano, Texas she attended Prestonwood Baptist Church. She was best known for her hospitality; entertaining guests at her house was one of her greatest joys. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Lolita was blessed with a large family. At the young age of 15, she married her true love, Richard S. Grimes and together they raised three sons. She is survived by: 1 son, Richard Alan Grimes and wife, Sandra of Plano, TX; daughter-in-law, Elaine Grimes of Orlando, FL; sister-in-law, Fran Grimes of Longview, TX; 5 grandchildren: Dr. Julie Grimes-Mumphrey and husband Dr. Doug Mumphrey of Huntsville, AL, George Randall Grimes II and wife, Sarah of Punta Gorda, FL, Heather Grimes Guerra and husband, Mario of Austin, TX, Michelle Grimes Collis and husband, John of Rowlett, TX, Carisa Grimes Epperson and husband, Tim of Wylie, TX; 13 great-grandchildren: Peyton and Hunter Grimes, Rylee and Luke Epperson, Mason, Logan and James Collis, Sam and Nate Guerra, Miles and Luke Mumphrey, Jack and Van Grimes along with many other family & friends.
Lolita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Richard S. Grimes; 2 sons: George Randall Grimes and Robb S. Grimes; a daughter, Virginia Lynn Grimes; sister, Virginia Barber Bryant and brother-in-law, Neal; 1 grandson, Jared Alan Grimes, 1 great-granddaughter Abigail Grace Collis.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at CedarVale Cemetery, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Reverend Sheila Jones, Christ of The Hills Methodist Church, will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her memory to either Prestonwood Baptist Church Pregnancy Center – prestonwoodpregnancycenter.org or Samaritan’s Purse – Samaritanspurse.org
Pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren.
