Margaret "Margie" Alice Sheppard

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of our mother, Margie Sheppard, who left us peacefully on October 1, 2024 at Lake Forest Senior Living after a life beautifully lived. Margaret Alice “Margie” Sheppard was born on January 21, 1931 in Racine, WI to Harold and Mabel (Moore) Hawes. She met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Sheppard at the local roller skating rink. They married on November 26, 1949 and had 58 wonderful years together until Dad passed in 2007

.Mom loved her job as J.I. Case Company’s Cafeteria Manager. Upon retirement in 1988, Mom and Dad moved from Racine, Wisconsin to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas where they were members of Sacred Heart Church and Mom was a member of the Ladies of Sacred Heart Guild #3. Bingo, card playing, crosswords, jigsaw puzzles, Game Boy and golfing were among her favorite hobbies. Mom shot a hole-in-one at Cortez #8!

Mom’s love of cooking and her big heart led her to always being the first to take a meal to anyone in need, including Samaritan Ministries and Jackson House. She was Cookie Gramma for Grade 2 at Mountain Pine School.

Mom was best known for her cowboy cookies that she carefully packaged and mailed to her children and grandchildren. She loved to laugh and enjoyed creating loving moments with her family right up to her final days. She is survived by her children, Lynn (Kirk) Engholt, with son Brad (Kelly); Kathi (Jim) Hartman, with children Gennifre, Jimmy (Grace) and Ross; Michael Sheppard, with children Rachel and Jeremy; Patti Sheppard, Bobby (Geralyn) Sheppard, with sons Nathan and Tony (Jenna); and Julie Sheppard, with children Doni, Aaron and Maggie. She is further survived by 20 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, brother-in-law Joe Sheppard, and sisters-in-law Irene Sheppard, Carol LaMasters and Judy Rossilli, many nieces and nephews and lots of friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by grandson Ryan Engholt, siblings James (Eunice) Hawes, Fern (John) Umiker, Ronald “Bud” (Marlene) Hawes, Dan (Shirley) Hawes and Patty (Ron) Jander, and in-laws Jack (Edie) Sheppard, Louie Sheppard, Dorothy (Edvin) Aude, James LaMasters, Nancy (Bob) Krezinski and Tony Rossilli.

A mass of resurrection will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 285 Balearic Road, Hot Springs Village, AR on Saturday, October 26th at 11:00 (Rosary at 10:30). A reception and celebration of Mom’s life will follow immediately after the mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice https://www.arkansashospice.org/ or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research https://www.michaeljfox.org/.

We would like to especially thank the staff at Lake Forest (formerly Good Samaritan Society) and Arkansas Hospice. The kindness, compassion and humanity shown by these angels will never be forgotten.

Arrangements were made and directed by CedarVale Funeral Home, the only funeral home inside the Hot Springs Village. Guests may register at cedarvalefuneralhome.com
