Mary Amundsen

Mary Amundsen, 87, passed peacefully in her home on June 28, 2023. Born in Long Beach, California to the late Joe and Catherine Jackson Furr, Mary considered herself an “ocean girl.” She lived in California until 2018 when she was convinced by her son, Chip, to move to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Mary went from an “ocean girl” to a “Lake Desoto Lady.”

Mary’s work life was varied- she was a metallurgical lab tech, an insurance agent, and later an administrator for her husband, Larry Amundsen, a structural engineer. She and Larry had many adventures including golf outings, hiking in Yosemite National Park and climbing to the peak of Mt Whitney twice- both times celebrating wedding anniversaries. After fourteen years of widowhood, Mary is reunited with Larry in an even higher place. Mary was also reunited with her much-loved pups Tanya, Bear-Bear, Lucy, and Sadie.

What never varied or wavered was the love Mary had for the Oakland Raiders, the San Francisco Giants and especially, her family. She felt blessed with children Chip Johnson, Glenn Johnson (Stacy), Angie Johnson Haley (A.C.), and Jim Rock; ten amazing grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Kathy Heppner (Dave); and her church family at Presbyterian Kirk of the Pines.

A Memorial Service for Mary will be Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 10am at Presbyterian Kirk of the Pines, 275 Asturias Dr, Hot Springs Village, AR 71909
