Mary Rose Buchanan of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, passed away at home on Tuesday morning, June 8. She was 81 years old. Mary was born on September 6, 1939 in Amarillo, Texas to Gertie and Willis Luetkahans. Mary was the fourth born of six children.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Buchanan Jr.;and her sister, Lovera Rickman.
She is survived by her sisters, Joyce Hefner and Evelyn Richie, and her brothers, Don Luetkahans and Ronnie Luetkahans. Mary leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Valerie Cadenhead of De Leon, Texas with her husband, Jimmy Cadenhead; son, Steve Buchanan of Roy Utah with his wife,Stephanie Buchanan; son, Danny Buchanan of Lawrenceville, Georgia with his wife, Kim Buchanan; her grandchildren: Trae with his wife Tiffany; Tyson with his wife Heather; Tori with her husband Brian, Taysha with her husband Sam; Maeve, Nathaniel and Amanda; her great-grandchildren: Ian, Nevaeh, Milo, Brayden, Linus, Connor, Felix, Tyler, Liam and Leo.
Mary grew up in Amarillo, Texas. She met Charles at age thirteen and they became sweethearts, marrying on January 25, 1957 at ages 17 and 18, respectively. They began growing their family while Charles was still in college, welcoming their daughter Valerie into the world.
Mary worked as a secretary before beginning her long career as a homemaker. Their son Steve was born two years after, followed seven years later by their youngest son, Danny. Mary took great pride in the raising and nurturing of her children. She later began a career in interior design and pursued her love for sewing and decorating in her own business. With Charles’ career, the Buchanan family moved all over the USA as well as to Argentina and Brazil.
On retiring, Charles and Mary moved to Hot Springs Village. They were faithfulmembers of Barcelona Road Baptist Church. Mary worked to build the church library, hosted in the church kitchen and volunteered in the nursery.
Mary enjoyed playing cards and board games, building jigsaw puzzles and going to estate sales.
She treasured time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her faith in Christ and her daily time in His Word was especially comforting to her in her later years.She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to thank both Barcelona Road Baptist Church and Right at Home for their faithful care of Mary.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 11th at 3:00 P.M. with services following at 4:00 P.M. at Barcelona Road Baptist church.
