Susan (Long) Franz, of Hot Springs Village, passed away, January 13, 2020. She was born on November 19, 1942 in El Paso Texas to Lt. Col. Lyndon A. and Kathlyn (Harff) Long.
Susan graduated from Hinsdale High School in Hinsdale, Illinois and Teachers College in Charleston, Illinois with a degree in Secondary Physical Education. After teaching Physical Education, Drivers ED and Health in Des Plaines, Illinois Sue sought a teaching position in Colorado. It was while she was teaching at Lakewood High School in Colorado and living in Edgewater that she met Curt Franz. Sue and Curt were married in 1969 in Conifer, Colorado. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in June of 2019. Curt’s job as a Federal Bank Examiner moved them to Tyler, Texas where their son, Christopher and daughter, Stacey was born on 1972 and 1973. It was while they lived there that Sue got her first set of golf clubs. Curt’s job moved them back to Denver for two years and then to Dallas, Texas where they lived from 1979 to 1996 when then moved to Hot Springs Village. Here in the Village, Sue became an avid golfer, starting the Spike Girls Club. As an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, Sue helped design and update the Faith website. She also organized our Sociable Six dinner club.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband of 50 years, Curt Franz, son Christopher Franz of Athens, Georgia and daughter Stacey and husband Jason of Hatfield of Celina, Texas and one grandson Jaron.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 10:00AM, with funeral services following at 11:00AM at Faith Lutheran Church, Hot Springs Village with Pastor Robert Benke officiating.
Interment will be at CedarVale Cemetery
