William Ross “Bill” Reynolds, of Hot Springs Village, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on August 30, 2023, three days after celebrating his 61st wedding anniversary and one day after celebrating his 82nd birthday. Bill was born August 29, 1941 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Albian and Sallie Howell Reynolds.
While in high school, he caught the eye of Mary Ann Gordon. She and a friend were asked to throw candy from a boat advertising the local sporting goods store which would be pulled in the town Christmas parade. As the boat slowly made its way along the route, the individual candies tossed in Bill’s direction failed to get his attention. When the full bag of candy thrown by the smitten Mary Ann knocked Bill to the ground her friend exclaimed, “Mary Ann! You’ve killed Billy Ross!”
Luckily, Bill was not injured. Bill and Mary Ann were married August 26, 1962.
After graduating from Arkansas State Teacher’s College in Conway (now University of Central Arkansas) in 1964, Bill began a career in banking. While at Citizens Bank in Marion, Arkansas, he also served as the city’s Chamber of Commerce President. In 1986, Bill moved from Marion to 1st National Bank in Hot Springs. In Hot Springs, he and his family attended First Presbyterian and Bill became an ordained elder. He retired in 2007 after serving as president of the Bank of Holly Grove since 1989.
Bill and Mary Ann were blessed with a son, Gordon Ross Reynolds. Bill and Gordon were best buddies. They made many happy memories in the woods hunting, fishing all the lakes, golfing whenever time allowed, and telling stories of their adventures to anyone who would listen. Gordon’s children, William Rush Reynolds and Ann Loraine Reynolds, made Bill the proudest of grandpas. And when great-grandson, Lucas Reynolds, arrived on Christmas day 2021 and great-granddaughter, Nyla Reynolds, the following September, both were joyous gifts!
Bill will be missed by his wife, Mary Ann; son, Gordon; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; church family; and countless friends.
A Celebration of Bill’s Life at Presbyterian Kirk in the Pines, 275 Asturias Dr., Hot Springs Village, AR 71909, will be Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 10am. The service will be officiated by Rev. Bill Bailey of Presbyterian Kirk in the Pines and Rev. Fern Davis of Holy Grove Presbyterian Church.
